What is Tower Pilates
Tower Pilates is a form of Pilates that uses a piece of equipment called a Tower, which is usually a wall unit, or a conversion of the Pilates reformer. At Yoganic our Pilates Reformers convert to Pilates Towers.
The Tower uses springs (like the reformer) - utilising the spring bar, push through bar (which can be sprung from the top or the bottom of the tower) and leg and arm springs.
Tower classes are still pretty niche in Australia and not offered in many studios but are very popular in studios in New York and Paris.
Increased Resistance
One of the primary benefits of Tower Pilates is increased resistance. The Tower is equipped with a variety of springs and straps that can be adjusted to provide different levels of resistance. This allows you to customise your workout to your individual needs and goals, and can help you build strength and muscle tone over time.
Tower Pilates primarily uses independent springs (for leg springs and arm work) as opposed to the reformer which uses a pulley system. This means that you work arms independently and your stronger side can't compensate.
Improved Flexibility
Tower Pilates exercises also focus on improving flexibility and range of motion. The springs and straps on the Tower provide gentle resistance, which can help you deepen your stretches and achieve a greater range of motion. This can lead to improved flexibility and reduced risk of injury. One of the things Yoganic clients love most about Tower classes is the incredible stretch. Someone said to me on Sunday "I just come to Tower classes for the stretch".
Enhanced Core Strength
Like traditional Pilates, Tower Pilates also emphasises core strength and stability. The Tower provides a stable base for performing exercises that target the deep muscles of the abdomen, back, and hips. By focusing on these muscles, Tower Pilates can help improve your posture, balance, and overall health.
Increased Mind-Body Connection
Tower Pilates requires focus and concentration, which can help improve your mind-body connection. By staying present and focused during your workout, you can enhance your awareness of your body and movement patterns. This can lead to improved coordination and a greater sense of body awareness.
Versatility
The Tower is a versatile piece of equipment that can be used to perform a wide variety of exercises. Many of the exercises are similar to those performed on the Pilates reformer or mat - just in a different orientation or with added resistance.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced athlete, Tower Pilates can be customised to suit your individual needs and goals. In addition, the Tower can be used to perform exercises in a variety of positions, including sitting, standing, and lying down.
In Conclusion
Tower Pilates is a versatile and effective form of exercise that offers a wide range of benefits. From increased resistance and flexibility to enhanced core strength and mind-body connection, Tower Pilates can help you achieve your fitness goals and improve your overall health and well-being. So why not give it a try and see how Tower Pilates can benefit you?
