January Teen Pilates
As mums - we are super passionate about getting our kids moving and finding movement they enjoy. School holidays are no exception! So this January we are running a block of teen Pilates classes in our Beecroft and Willoughby studios - pay for the block, or try a drop in class. It’s a great way to try Pilates before our term 1 classes start or keep your teens moving over the holidays.
Why should teens do Pilates?
1. Improves Posture
Teenagers are often hunched over desks, phones, or computers, which can lead to poor posture. Pilates emphasises spinal alignment and body awareness, helping teens develop better posture habits that can carry over into adulthood.
2. Strengthens Core Muscles
Pilates is renowned for its focus on core strength, which is essential for overall body stability. A strong core helps improve balance, coordination, and athletic performance—important for teens involved in sports or active hobbies.
3. Increases Flexibility
Many teens experience tight muscles due to sedentary activities or physical stress. Pilates includes a lot of stretching and mobility work, which can help improve flexibility and reduce the risk of injuries.
4. Enhances Mind-Body Connection
Pilates encourages mindfulness and breath control, promoting a greater mind-body connection. This can help teens develop emotional resilience, reduce stress, and improve focus both in physical activities and in schoolwork.
5. Builds Balanced Strength
Unlike some forms of exercise that focus on specific muscle groups, Pilates engages the entire body. This promotes balanced muscle development, reducing the risk of imbalances and the injuries that can arise from them.
6. Boosts Mental Well-being
Physical exercise, including Pilates, has been shown to release endorphins, which can help combat anxiety, depression, and stress. For teens, who may face a lot of emotional ups and downs, Pilates can serve as a therapeutic outlet.
7. Improves Athletic Performance
For teens involved in sports, Pilates can enhance performance by increasing strength, flexibility, and coordination. It also improves balance and agility, which are valuable in a wide range of activities from soccer to swimming.
8. Promotes Healthy Habits Early On
Starting Pilates at a young age helps instill the importance of regular physical activity, which can develop into a lifelong habit. It’s a great way for teens to prioritise their health and wellness while also having fun.
Teen Pilates runs Mondays at 5pm from January 6 - 20 at Willoughby and Thursdays at 4:30pm from January 9 - 30 at Beecroft. Bookings under the ‘courses’ tab on the website or app.
